No ‘top’ CV safety system – it’s all down to the situation

The 25th Scientific Advisory Group report examines CV safety data, flagging the factors behind the accidents and the technology that could prevent or mitigate them. By Megan Lampinen

Truck safety demands a combination of systems and technologies, both active and passive, but the merits of each vary depending on the situation. "There is no one single solution for all accident types," commented Jac Wismans from SAFER, the Vehicle and Traffic Safety Centre at Chalmers University in Gothenburg, Sweden. Wismans was one of the key contributors to the SAG 25 report, the 25th Scientific Advisory Group's examination of commercial vehicle (CV) safety.

Focussing on Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV) mainly used for long-haul and regional deliveries, the report highlights the various causes and types of accidents in which these vehicles are involved.
