Testing times for European trucking

The European truck market is buoyant – at present. To sustain this level of performance, the sector needs to tackle a series of challenges spearheaded by fuel economy and increasingly stringent emissions targets, learns Freddie Holmes

With such an array of options available on the heavy-duty truck market in Europe, often with similar specifications and all developed to meet the same regulatory targets, OEMs are keen to know where they sit against the competition.

Graz, Austria headquartered powertrain-testing company AVL has established itself as a leader in benchmarking, and expects to see rising business coming out of the truck market. Europe in particular heralds an enticing opportunity, with manufacturers working with slim profit margins and strict fuel economy targets.
