Tech development for NG engines to transform HDV market

The continued improvement of natural gas engine technology could change the HDV market across the US. By Michael Nash

The California Energy Commission (CEC) recently announced it was providing a US$1m grant for the continued development of the Cummins Westport 12-litre natural gas (NG) engine that produces near-zero nitrogen oxide (NOx) tailpipe emissions. The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) will work alongside Cummins Westport as part of the agreement, as the engine is expected to help support efforts to improve the air quality of the South Coast and San Joaquin Valley air basins.
