Simulation – the key to effective thermal management?

Increasing powertrain complexity in trucks requires advanced thermal management systems, and virtual simulation is proving an efficient design tool. By Xavier Boucherat

The ever tighter packaging of powertrain components and systems that comes hand in hand with increases in truck fuel efficiency creates challenges in one area in particular: thermal management. The closer the components are to each other, the trickier it is to cool them down when a vehicle is in motion. Thermal management strategies must therefore keep pace, and undergo rigorous testing to meet the high durability standards demanded by the heavy-duty sector.
