Prudence urged for transport players despite Trump’s ‘business favourable’ promises

While Republicans across the US are hopeful that Trump's policies will mean better conditions for business, opponents suggest Trump's lack of government experience makes him a wild card. By Megan Lampinen

The US transport industry has been hearing warnings of a near-term recession over the past few months as sliding tonnage figures reflect a slowing economy. The only questions were how long it would last and how deep it would go. Then came Donald Trump's surprise election, and with it a host of big campaign promises.

"The good news of the election is that there has been a wave of optimism among business people that the conjunction of a Republican House, Republican Senate and a Republican President will reduce the possibility of gridlock, which is always a pain, and create some business favourable policy," Noël Perry, Senior Consultant and Truck & Transportation Expert at Freight Transportation Research (FTR), told Automotive World.
