Michelin’s Indonesian JV looks to produce eco-friendly natural rubber

Only 25% of the raw materials used by the global tyre manufacturing industry are renewable. Michelin, through its latest JV in Indonesia, plans to produce natural rubber in a sustainable and eco-friendly manner

The tyre industry today uses approximately 32 million tonnes of raw material per year. Out of this, only 25% is renewable material. One of the main raw materials in the tyre manufacturing process is natural rubber, but 75% is oil-based. One of the main challenges faced by tyre manufacturers is finding alternatives to natural rubber.
