Let’s communicate: How to operate in harmony with automated vehicles

With autonomous cars on the road, not only will occupants need to communicate with their cars: pedestrians and autonomous vehicles will need to understand each other too. This article examines the vehicle HMI for road users other than the driver and passengers. Vehicles with advanced robotic characteristics are successively entering the market, and will doubtless become an integral part of our future transportation system. Automated or autonomous vehicles assume either partial or full authority from their human drivers, and thereby enable them to engage in other tasks that are not necessarily related to driving.
