Ford recently teamed up with software platform provider Splunk on the Connected Car Dashboards collaborative project, which collected and analysed data from vehicles to gain insight into driving habits of electric versus gasoline drivers, with a potential to help improve safety and guide future vehicle design. Using Ford's OpenXC open source research platform, which was plugged in to gather data from connected vehicles, Splunk employees drove around San Francisco in a Ford Focus Electric vehicle and a gasoline-powered Ford Escape.
