FCEV infrastructure challenge could get easier and cheaper with time

Linde Group’s Markus Bachmeier is confident that the challenges faced today by hydrogen infrastructure are mere growing pains. By Xavier Boucherat

Fuel cell electric vehicles are fuelled by hydrogen, which reacts in a fuel cell stack with oxygen running through the front of the car to produce electricity, which in turn powers the motor. Advocates for the technology often point to the fact that hydrogen is the universe’s most abundant element, and this is true, but here on earth it does not exist in a readily-useable form. This is just one of the many challenges for the companies now trying to put a better hydrogen infrastructure in place.

Markus Bachmeier is Linde Group’s Head of Hydrogen Solutions. As he explains in this interview, Linde is approaching the fuel cell segment with the question
