There have been several announcements from OEMs over the past few months regarding electric vehicle (EV) initiatives in China. Daimler's smart brand announced at the end of 2013 that it will introduce its all-electric smart fortwo into the Chinese market, while the OEM’s joint venture with BYD is pushing ahead with plans to launch the first model under the new Denza brand. Volvo has announced plans to introduce its V60 PHEV and C30 models, and now Volkswagen Group has announced plans for an electro-mobility campaign in China. VW's Chief Executive Martin Winterkorn has said this will be “the biggest initiative for eMobility in China’s automotive history.”
