The news that driverless cars will be trialled on public roads in the UK in 2015 begs the question of what future management systems and grids will look like for roads. Dr Kevin Curran, Senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at the University of Ulster, believes that in the future, it is entirely possible for all vehicles to have networked connectivity, allowing them to receive software updates and synchronisation over the local network.
