Chevy Bolt off to strong start but in a struggling segment

The Chevrolet Bolt is a pivotal model for GM and the EV industry, but there's no getting away from the fact that overall volumes remain miniscule. By Megan Lampinen

General Motors launched a game changer with the Chevrolet Bolt at the start of this year, marking the first US-built mass produced electric vehicle (EV) with a 200-mile plus range. While the car quickly bagged a handful of awards, including the North American Car of the Year, which it won by a landslide, that didn't guarantee customer uptake or profitability. There were also manufacturing challenges to face. It was clearly a gamble.
