Despite giving away their data for smartphone services, are consumers ready to give their data to the connected car?

As the adoption of connected and autonomous technologies in vehicles increases, so does the need for a framework that provides clear standards for manufacturers and consumers in important areas, especially data privacy and cyber security.

While consumers already have some experience of ‘opting in’ to share data on their smartphones, unlocking the wider societal benefits of data sharing may require levels of mandatory data sharing such as that being achieved through the EU’s eCall initiative expected to be implemented in 2018.
